I am currently enjoying the September issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine - it's lush. Every page sparks a zillion styling and design ideas of my own. As I am embarking on my handbag designs again, Harpers magazine has been an inspiration.

Darryl Humphrey is an old mate who I had my first saturday job with. We worked together when we were 16 in the staff kitchen of a department store. Despite the Victorian like drudgery of the job, we always managed to have fun times.
Darryl is one of those amazingly multi talented guys who is just brilliant at everything he does - without being annoying.
Darryl left his successful business career behind and has now moved on to become an even more successful photographer. Now rubbing the shoulders with A list stars, Darryl has done himself proud ...and me too!
Despite his hectic schedule and high profile status, he still finds time to emcourage me in my endeavours. This blog is one product of his on going encouragement (and much needed chastisement at times), it would not exisit without him! I am so glad he did because of all of you blog lovlies I have had the pleasure of getting to know.

I spent last weekend in the beautiful coastal town of Hastings. The famous battle of Hastings, taking place in 1066, saw Englands first Norman king on the throne otherwise known as Willian The Conqueror. In addition to this, it was here that John Logie Baird invented the television. Nice one Mr Baird.
The weather was ldyllic last week, the sun was ever so sunny. Apart from foolishly wearing platforms (they make my legs look longer in my new pair of jeans) eveything was lovely. There is definitley a French influence in Hastings, having being conquered by a French King. I found myself transported to some of my favourite areas of Paris, as I meandered(wobbled) around this beautiful town.There i an amazing selection of interesting antique shops, interior stores and yummy restaurants. I enjoyed a delicious plate of fish and chips! I took pictures with my Blackberry, and I can be a bit cock eyed, but I hope you enjoy...

We are enjoying a few days of lovely weather here in London, England. The unexpected sunny days have been the perfect excuse to don a full summery ensemble. The unpredictable English weather does have a tendency to attract some over zealous types or two. Whilst wearing a pretty summer dress is perfectly acceptable for the current, temperature, wearing a bikini to visit the local supermarket is not.Especially when it has been known to be sunny and snow on the same day.
Anyway, I have decided to extend the theme of gift shop goodies, as this is my latest thing. Today I am featuring the gift shop from the Tate Modern. Created in the year 2000 from a disused power station in the heart of London, Tate Modern displays the national collection of international modern art. This is defined as art since 1900. International painting pre-1900 is found at the National Gallery, and sculpture at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Tate Modern includes modern British art where it contributes to the story of modern art, so major modern British artists may be found at both Tate Modern and Tate Britain. I would encourage to visit the site to learn more, it's so interesting.

In between working on my online boutique The Style Mansion, I have managed to enjoy some leisurley days out.
My yummy mummy and I recently had a wonderful day out in Greenwich,a favourtie haunt of mine. As afore mentioned in previous blogs, Greenwich London is an historical area, once home to King Henry VIII. Greenwich is famous for its nautical connections and boasts the spectacular Maritime Museum, Greenwich Observatory and the famous Cutty Sark.It also has one of the most beautiful parks in London.
Mummy and I started out our day by taking a slow and pleasant walk across the park. We then decided to visit the museum. I was absolutley esatic when we happened upon the gift shop and discovered so many beautiful things...

Liberty's is a beautiful British department store,offering a gorgeous range of fashion,beauty and lifestyle goods. I love the timlessness of a classic vintage piece.It can be reworked over and over again and still look special.
I was introduced to an amazing vintage emporium by a friend. It is a large warehouse full of clothes from every era.Top traders from the likes of Portabello Road Market, visit there on a regular basis seeking out vintage treasures. Clothes are paid for by weight. Hence, I was able to pick up another vintage coat(hooray!) a pair of original plus four trousers, a Saville Row shirt in original packaging and a black dress all for ...£20/$31.28!!!
The warehouse is hidden away in a residential area. It is a vast, dusty place and wearing gloves whilst searching through the hundreds of sacks of clothes is highly recommended. As a fashion retailer, I understand the lucrative business opportunity before me, however I end up keeping everything myself! I have also decided to pick up some pieces for those who follow me on my blog and present them as giveaways. I have all ready gathered a few pieces and will be launching the giveaways within a couple of months.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. I spent yesterday with a friend who wanted to view a property in Wimbledon (where the Wimbledon championships take place). We passed briefly through Wimbledon Village, which is a simply lovely place. There are lovely independent boutiques, with all sorts of fashion goodies.Somewhat pricey however, but still great for window shopping. I love to visit Wimbledon Village in the summer - it's a great place to people watch and an enjoy a cup of tea. There is also a farmers market, offering delicious fayre such as homemade jams and freshly laid eggs.
We arrived at the property, only to be locked out as the developer had given us the wrong keys. We soon gathered an audience, as my friend attempted to try the lock with the wrong keys seveal times. I didn't mind the audience as I was wearing a pair of my favourite shoes - silver dolly shoes with a bow, which I actually bought from a childrens shoe department for about £15/$24.
We gave up and went home to a lovely roast dinner with all the trimmings.

Firstly - a moments silence please for my 1950's vintage coat - the drycleaner sabotaged it beyond repair. They offered to refund me the cost of the coat. As if you can refund vintage! Fashion philistines! Never mind.

I often get sales reps contacting me promoting various products. Obviously, there are times when I am not really interested in the product being offered. However, I always endeavour to be polite,patient and open minded. I was contacted by a rep today from a company named Wholesale Gifts. He was hoping that, after having viewed the project range, we could arrange a meeting.

Browsing the site, I knew immediatley that the products offered are not really suited for The Style Mansion. Whilst browsing I came across these 'Celebriduck' rubberducks.Whoever thought these up, I just want to ask 'why?' How did you think this up? Were you watching a rerun of the A Team one day and then you started to wonder what Mr T would look like if he were a rubber duck? What would Freud say?
I have also included a Penelope Pitstop keyring, because she is cool and I don't want you to think that the entire site is full of weird things like the Celebriduck.

I had a lovely weekend. Although I overbooked myself, it was a nice weekend. Overbooked because I was supposed to meet my New Yorker cousin Marky for lunch, but had all ready booked a table at Beas of Bloomsbury for high tea with Raquel (as you can tell we like cake and tea). Marky brought me back Swedish Fish sweets/candy from New York, which we can't get here in England. So, I HAVE to meet him.
Anyway Beas of Bloomsbury is a quaint tea house situated near the beautiful St Pauls Cathedral in London. They bake the most extrodinary cakes, with the most elaborte decorations. Raquel and I ordered the Sweet Tea - A tiered platter of two cupcakes,two miniture meringue topped brownies,two miniture marble cakes, two scones with fresh clotted cream and strawberry jam, one pot of tea. We also had two half baguettes filled with goats cheese and rocket.As you can guess, it was just way too much food.It was defintley a doggy bag situation.
After leaving, we wended our way up to the nearby Hatton Gardens.Hatton Gardens is an area famed for it's expensive jewellery shops. Many a celebrity has had their wedding ring designed by a Hatton Garden jeweller. So of course Raquel and I had to go. We decided to try on wedding rings - perfectly logical - find the rings first, then the husbands. Raquel has decided she would like to get married in a palace. I have decided on a simple wedding with close friends and family but a beautiful dress. We decided to try on rings with huge diamonds.Security looked nervous.
Raquel is going through a pocket watch phase, so we looked for pocket watches too. We found some beautiful antique pocket watches in ornate silver and gold- however £1000 plus for a phase is way too much!
Sunday is ordinarily my day of rest. However, I have been helping a friend to organise their tax returns before the 31st. They rewarded me with a beautifully designed Italian coat. It's so intricate and detailed, that I will have to post pictures. The size was too big though, but they are exchanging it for a smaller one.

I am now the proud owner of a LenkaLovee original signed hand drawn art sketch. This particular piece features adorable miniture sketches of beautiful dresses. I discovered LenkaLovee via her lovely blog My (stylish pursuit of Happiness. It was love at first blog! Not only is she a talented artist with her own Etsy shop, she is a marketing major, visionary and a very warm,sweet person overall.
The sketch comes in a beautiful black frame, which gives it a classic, chic finish. Hence, you could hang this sketch in a varierty of places, from your boudoir, to the hallway, or your office. It is an enjoyable, fun and whimsical piece. I have spent ages looking at all the various designs,considering which ones I would actually like to wear. My friend saw it yesterday and absolutley loves it. I suspect I will be visiting Lenka's shop again soon.
The sketch has become one of my favourite things, so I have photographed it with a pair of my favourite shoes by Coco James and perfume - Coco Mademoiselle and Coco Chanel. I just realised they all have the name coco. So I will name the sketch - Coco by LenkaLovee.

Betty Blythe And Blizzards

Today was spent with my lovely friend Raquel and her brother Michael, who is over here from Germany. Despite the freezing temperatures ( we are getting -3 in London and -20 in Scotland and the North!) we met up for tea and cakes. We visited a delightful tea shop in West London, Brook Green called Betty Blythe. It has a beautiful 1920's interior and tea is served in the most delicate, floral teacups. Raquel and I shared a delicious carrot cake with cheese frosting, Michael had one all to himself. We sat downstairs, on charming round tables with the most beautiful settings. The hot choclate I ordered was delicious, with lovely vanilla overtones. To add to the whole 1920's ambience, accessories are available in a beautiful dresser. We played dress up with long beaded necklaces, flapper girl headwear and tiaras. We made Michael wear a feather hat (pics coming. Lenka, when you visit London, we have to go!
After that we headed over to Westfields shopping centre, which is supposed to rival the big malls in the U.S. However,it gets a thumbs down from me. I love U.S shopping malls, they are infinitley better in every way. Hence we didn't stay long and made our way to Notting Hill. We walked past the house which George Orwell once lived, author of 1984 and Animal Farm. The houses are exquisite, pastel pinks,blues, greens and yellows. A terrible wind was picking up, and it was beginning to feel very icy. However, we carried on, making our way along the famous Portabello market. Portabello Market is vintage heaven, as well as a hub for cutting edge design. Antiques galore and some of the best restaurants in London. Inspired by Betty Blythe, Raquel bought a beautiful handpainted china cup and saucer. We decided that she simply had to have a cupcake to go with it, so we queued for a while in Hummingird bakery, which makes the most exquisite cupcakes. Raquel is a petite half Kenyan, half Italian beauty, she can get away with it!
We exited the bakery to be confronted with a real life blizzard. How ironic, as I was saying to Debbie, that I have never been in a real life blizzard. As sharp flakes of ice flew in out faces, we all got the giggles and made our way back to the car. Goodbye George Orwell, goodbye Betty Blythe, goodbye Hummingird, we had a lovely day, now it's time to go home.

As with each New Year,we are faced with the various methods of atoning for our sins of over indulgence. Apart from our optimistic resolutions to visit the gym, start a new healthy eating regime, the word detox becomes the new 'in' word for January. The market becomes flooded with various amazing detoxing programmes, claiming all kinds of transforming qualites. Such programmes, formulas and magical elixirs often come along with an impressive price. The general understanding being - the more you pay the better it is. If you say so. However, listening to a doctor on tv yesterday, he dispelled the detox myth. He explained that the best detox system we could hope for is out own liver and kidneys.They have been perfectly designed to filter and get rid of our bodies impurities. Once you don't marinate them in gin and vodka of course. A little assistance for our God given in built detox system comes by way of nothing but sweet pure water. I suggest you cancel your detox programme that you took a mortgage out to pay for and go buy some water instead. In fact you can do it in style, flaunting some of these designer water bottles.The likes of Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix have turned their hand to creating limited edition bottles for Evian.Serve water in style at the dinner table in beautiful glass decanters. Even a pretty vase can become an improvised water jug. Add slices of lemon and lime, orange or mint leaves for a delicate hint of flavour. You can even become a water connoisseur and buy a copy of Fine Waters by Michael Mascha to study.

I always remember spending the Christmas and New Year of 2000 in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was covered in shimmering glittering lights every evening. The Champs Elysee was lit up like a long diamond necklace stretched out in front of us. I was actually with my cool cousin Mark from New York. The only thing missing that year was a romantic somebody to enjoy it all with. My cousin soon put that to right for himself, finding a beautiful Parisienne girl to smooch with( all the girls in Paris look like Vogue models). I, however was waiting for Mr Right and was being an extremely good girl. Although my heart yearned to be with a special someone, I knew waiting would pay off (it usually always does). I comforted myself with delicious French Crepes and bottles of Chanel perfume from Galeries Lafayette.Of course I still enjoyed my lovely cousin's company too! The Little Black Dress Extravaganza Part II

I had a lovely Christmas day with my friends and family. I promised, as I do every year, not to over eat, but as always I did. I cooked the turkey with a sage and onion stuffing. My friend prepared delicious Jamaican rice and peas. Also roast parsnips, carrots and onion with an olive oil and herb marinade. The Christmas Pudding was sumptuious and juicy, full of plump sultanas, dates and nuts. My sister, who lives half the year in South Africa with her husband (they run a charity), was over there this year. She was very organised and ordered my gifts online. I am now the proud owner of a beautiful pink leather organiser. Also a beautiful brand new leather bound bible with a zip, as requested. I am full, I am content now for the extravaganza part II...

The Little Black Dress Extravaganza Part One

It's the season to don our LBD's.I have decided to do a double feature on this, because the LBD is a critically, critically important essential for our wardrobes. My last LBD purchase was a few months ago,in fact it wasn't a purchase at all- it was a gift from my lovely mummy who has cute pouchy cheeks like a cute chipmunk.
Now when hunting for your LBD, please do not forget the vintage route. This will be covered in the second part of the LBD Extravaganza. You can make some amazing finds in terms of Vintage dresses and charity shops. I have also been known to sketch my own designs and have them made up for me. If you have an aunty who is handy with a sewing machine, this can be a thrilling and inexpensive alternative to some of the higher priced LBD's.
I love sparkly accessories with LBD's - diamantes, diamonds ( I don't actually have any!) anything like that. Not too much, not too little - let the dress be the star.

A Little Black Dress does not always have to be little, it can be floor length and sweeping. These 'gowns' are fun to wear, you can pretend that you are off to the Oscars. If you really have nothing better to do, you can lay out your own red carpet at the door when you leave the house ( in reality this will probably be an old red blanket that you have stuffed away in your garage). Ask your boyfriend/husband/mum/dad/sibling to photograph you as you leave the house. Bribe someone else to ask for your autograph. Wave as you walk towards the car and hurry inside. This is where the fantasy probably ends, as you probably don't have a chauffeur. Anyway, never mind. I present to you the Little Black Dress Extravaganza Part One...

I love wearing hats. One of my favourites is a red beret I bought in Paris several years ago. I just love it, its so stylish, it just adds such a chic look to any outfit. I recommend that everyone should have an essential hat collection. They can be lifesavers when you are having a bad hair day.They can also give quite an ecclectic feel to an outfit - be daring and wear a trilby with a dress. Find a nice warm stylish hat for the winter - it will keep your head warm and save you getting the sniffles. Let me know which hats you like!

Hey guys, now I know that this supposed to be a blog about fashion, however I just HAD to blog about Mousey! He is a cute adorable handmade Mouse I bought as a Christmas gift for my sister.Mousey is made by Sheepshape, a wonderful homecraft business run by an equally wonderful lady named Elizabeth. Mousey is made with hand spun Leicester Wool, then knitted and finished off with a polyester stuffing and the cutest child safety eyes.
I ordered him from Sheepshape
and he arrived superfast in the best ever packaging. I also had the choice to have him gift wrapped if I wished. Elizabeth was ever so efficient,friendly and professional.
Now, I had to present Mousey to my sister as an early Christmas gift, as she is off to Africa over the holiday season. She yelped with delight when she saw Mousey and hugged him. He will be going on Safari with her. Keep posted for pictures. We can't decide whether to kit him out with a Safari outfit or let him run wild au naturel.

I won these pretty pink shoes on ebay! I am so happy! I am gong to wear them with a gorgeous grey coat I bought on Sunday from New Spitalfields Market. Also a nice pair of grey tights. I've also found a pink oversized ring to go with the shoes, made by a French designer with the most amazing pretty Parisienne accent. La la la - I'm happy,I'm happy...

Latsamy P - Up and Coming Fashion Designer

Latsamy P is an up and coming fashion designer from Austraila. Latsamy attended KvB Institute of Technology, where she majored in Fashion Design focusing on designing women's wear, both Ready to Wear and Houte Couture. Whilst at design school Latsamy participated in a number of student exhibitions including a graduate show at the Sydney Opera House. Latsamy has also completed work experience at Collette Dinnigan.

She designs and makes all my own creations (including pattern making etc). Latsamy also designs and make lingerie - self taught! She has been interested in fashion ever since she can remember and has been sewing since she was 13! So that is over 10 years worth of experience in designing and making her own garments. The multi talented Latsamy is also a self taught artist and has been drawing since the age of 9 using different media ie pen and ink, charcoal etc. She also paints, mostly in watercolour.
Latsamy is all ready making waves in the fashion design world. Watch this space.

The Style Mansion welcomes independent designer Catriona Davies of Blacksheep designs. I was dazzled by her retro 80's handmade outfits - funky t-shirts with amazing 'Blondie' prints, fantastic jumpsuits and cheeky chic polka dot shirts and skirts. Wow!

I have decided that I like antique perfume bottles and that I am going to collect them. I have toyed with the idea of becoming an antique collecter for a few years now. I was watching an antiques programme the other day and they were discussing antique perfume bottles. I decided that collectig these would be my first venture. They are so pretty and quaint and romantic. I intend to have a beautiful boudoir one day in which I will place my lovely collection of perfume bottles. They will look beautiful twinkling in the light of my antique chandilier...

S.Love are a New York based fashion label created by designers Sarah Adelson and Sally Lapointe. Their designs are fresh, classic and beautiful. Each garment is unique and finished off with a handpainted design. The two designers met whilst they were studying at the Rhode Island School of fashion several years ago.
Sally Lapointe has also created a collection - Sally, offering fluid silk scarves, beautiful soft leather clutch bags and amazing dresses.

Designers on Designers was a 'social networking experience' hosted by prolific photographer Darryl Humphrey and Shallom Johnson fashion and arts writer,blogger and stylist. The experiment turned out to be a roaring success and hopefully the beginning of something big! The event allowed fellow designers to meet up,dress up and network,whilst apprciating one anothers work.Champagne flowed in the million dollar penthouse where the event was hosted. However the time comes along when it's gone passed the 'worn in nicely' stage to just plain tatty, bordering on disgraceful. Time for a new bag. The freshness,the neatness, the clean cut unabused pockets and zip compartments - a new bag. A new bag symbolises the return of order to our sometimes disorderly lives. No more shaking out the crumbs from the half eaten cereal bar,lost in the abyss that is the bottom of your old bag. No more searching frantically for your mobile phone,ringing desperatley from the beyond within your bag. Ringing " answer me, answer me/help me/save me/deliver me - I'm lost in here because you couldn't be bothered to put me in the mobile phone compartment anymore - I'm being tossed around in hell like darkness because you don't care about this bag anymore like you did when you first bought it. Face it, it's over, the love has gone,just buy a new bag and put me out of my misery,besides all those calls your missing, it's just not worth it"
